Hi All, Please review the following summary I sent out earlier. Any and all of the suggested topics highlighted below need attention at the next meeting. Please let me know if you can attend at the time proposed. Tuesday, Nov. 9 @ 7 PM - Learning Center

Meeting with MaineHousing – Long Island Grant

Last Wednesday, Oct. 20, we met with MaineHousing in Augusta to further explore applying for the grant to build two rental houses on Long Island.
Attending were Mary McAleney and Mark Greene of the YRHCorp. with Mary Terry of the Island Institute and Liza Fleming Ives of the Genesis Foundation. We met with Dan Brennan, Director of Development; Norm Fecteau, a Construction Analyst; and Don McGuilvery, a Construction Services Manager. They were interested in who we were (YRHCorp), how and why we came to be, the make up of our community, what and how we perceived our housing needs to be, what we had in mind for building, etc.
The meeting was one of which I would characterize as them trying to better understand what we needed and offering their expertise to help us get there.
Liza Fleming Ives and Mary Terry characterized it as a meeting that went well, as they have been to these meetings with other interested Island groups for comparison.
The next steps that need to be tackled are to better and more precisely decide what we want for houses (stick or modular; size and design, etc) get plans for them, and solicit bids.
We can then better fine tune our budget needs and line up the additional monies needed by loan. MaineHousing said that they were a good source of loan monies.
I would suggest that you bring more specific ideas and plans to our next meeting and let us try to get to a point quickly where we can solicit the bids and get ready to apply for the grant.
I think we also need to clearly define who is going to be applying for these homes so that those folks can be active in the decision making process and that we are (within the guidelines and conditions developed earlier by the YRHCorp.) able to consider the specific needs and desires of those applicants.
I would tentatively suggest a next meeting date of Tuesday, Nov. 9. Let me know if this is good. Thanks, Mark
